Earlier in the year we had a callout to repatriate a patient from Malaga to the UK. For this kind of work we set our aircraft up in its stretcher configuration in order that the patient could sleep comfortably throughout the flight.

Our stretcher equipped PA-31
Flight time to Malaga is 5 hours and, to comply with regulations, a fuel stop in Bordeaux was required for this journey. Although we normally fly with a single flight pilot, two experienced pilots are present in the cockpit for every ambulance flight to make sure that the aircraft has double the experience on board, the flight goes without a hitch and the patient gets the maximum care possible.
On this flight the family travelled with the patient and a paramedic was also on board. The stress of negotiating a busy public airport with delays, security and customs issues was removed from the flight by landing at Blackbushe (a small private airfield) where an ambulance was on hand waiting on arrival. The family expressed their thanks for making the flight go ahead so smoothly.
