Compliance with the CAA's Air Operators Certificate (AOC) regulations requires that our pilots regularly familiarise themselves with how to tackle and deal with fires. This bi-annual excercise gives them the opportunity to get some valuable and practical experience with Shoreham Airport's fire crew on their practice ground

December's fire fighting course consisted of a refresher lecture on the types of fire, extinguishers and how to deal with them. Our pilots were then driven out to the practise ground where they were allowed to put the theory and techniques learnt to the test.

A range of extinguishers were used to fight different types of fire. They also had the chance to extinguish a fire using a fire blanket.
Although it was a fun day away from our normal activities, the refresher course keeps our pilots' knowledge and skills current ensuring that they are best prepared to deal with such problems during their day to day activities in and around airports and inside aeroplanes.
