When a decision is made to get a package across Europe from A to B most companies would expect a solution to be actioned within a few hours with the package to arrive within 24 hours, a service typically offered by the large courier companies. So when AERO ALLIANCE were tasked by a DHL carrier to position a freight consignment from Frankfurt to East Midlands, we showed them how a first class service should really be flown. The initial enquiry came to the AERO ALLIANCE operations team at 14:00, with the quotation given back at 14:10. This quotation was accepted at 14:45 with the expected off block time of 16:00 from Shoreham calculated. Due to our experience of Aircraft on Ground (AOG) operations, we were able to commit to a European departure within 75 minutes, having the cargo/freight configuration completed and necessary flight planning complete. The clients service personnel who would join the trip arrived at 15:55 at Shoreham Airport and Our PA31 Chieftain departed on schedule from Shoreham to Frankfurt, arriving 2 hours later, a time not dissimilar to the faster airlines, without the long check in times. A 45 minute turnaround was scheduled, which allowed for the consignment to be loaded, manifests to be checked, refuelling of the aircraft and customs to be cleared. The departure, again on schedule, departed on a direct course to East Midlands Airport, with the precious cargo safely on board. The Piper Chieftain has large cargo doors, with good weight allowances and plenty of cabin space. The arrival at East Midlands Airport was uneventful, with a direct arrival, ensuring minimal delays. Our parking at East Midlands was on the DHL stand, where parked were several large Boeing aircraft being loaded for immediate departures. Before the Chieftain had the last of its radios switched off, the DHL despatch crews were on board the aircraft, disembarking the cargos, which were then put on the awaiting Boeing aircraft. Within 30 minute the cargo was airborne and heading for the USA. Our committed crews were commended by the client, who were impressed at not only speed at which we could dispatch and deliver, but at the price, which was unbeaten by even the Frankfurt based air charter operators.
