Formation Flying Training in conjunction with Flight Calibration Services

Aero Alliance proudly works with several partners, one of which is Flight Calibration Services.  Here we provide pilot training to help crew attain the first class calibration skills which are simply not taught in any mainstream flying school.

Part of this training led us up to formation flying.  We have all seen the various flying display teams perform throughout the country, and after each display we feel on cloud nine, with the inspiration to go flying and try it out ourselves.  However these pilots are extremely skilled and well practised and it would be foolish of us to join in with their act without some proper training.

This week we flew an instructional sortie with two PA31 Piper Cheiftains.  The exercise started at 1000 feet on departure from Shoreham Airport westbound at a speed of 140 knots.  The lead aircraft was instructed to fly with the gear down with the formating chieftain with the gear up.  This offered a variation of configurations for the picture opportunites.  The chase aircraft was instructed to formate on the port quarter, switching to the starbord upon the instructors command.

The pilots throughoutly enjoyed the exercise along with developing their flying skills.  If you would like to try formation flying in your aircraft or in one of our club aircraft, then please give Stuart or Andy a call to discuss the possibilities.
